Kayaking is a brilliant pastime. It is great exercise and can take place in amazing locations. There are a few different types of kayaking, from white-water kayaking to long expeditions and everything in between. Sit-on-top kayaks designed to be used on calm seas for short journeys have recently risen sharply in popularity, along with stand-up paddleboards. I recently paddled from Studland Beach to Old Harry Rocks with my Mum, who is a relatively inexperienced paddler. I paddled in my tourer, a Robson Waikiki, and my Mum paddled an inflatable kayak, the Z Pro Tango 200. This article tells you what happened on our journey, and is written as a guide for others who want to do the same paddle.

Preparation

Preparing for any kayak trip is important, no matter how small. Ensuring you have the correct equipment, know the forecast and, if you’re on the sea, know the direction of the tides and the time they will change, are all kayaking basics.
